SAUSAGE PIZZA ROLL

Ingredients

For the dough

 • 2 cups all-purpose flour — 250g

 • 1 teaspoon instant yeast — 3g

 • 2 tablespoons sugar — 25g

 • ½ teaspoon salt — 3g

 • 2 tablespoons butter — 28g

 • ½ cup warm milk — 120ml

 • 2 tablespoons warm water — 30ml, or as needed

For the filling

 • 6–8 sausages

 • ½ cup pizza sauce — 120g

 • 1 cup grated mozzarella or cheddar cheese — 100g

 • ½ cup diced green and red bell peppers — 75g

 • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

 • 1 egg for brushing

Method

Combine the flour, yeast, sugar and salt in a bowl.

Add the warm milk, water and butter. Mix until a soft dough forms, then knead until smooth and elastic.

Cover the dough and allow it to rise in a warm place for about 45–60 minutes, or until doubled in size.

Roll out the dough into a large rectangle on a lightly floured surface.

Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

Sprinkle the grated cheese and diced bell peppers over the sauce, then arrange the sausages on top.

Roll the dough tightly from one end into a log.

Cut the log into equal-sized rolls and arrange them on a lined baking tray with the cut side facing upward.

Cover and allow the rolls to rest for about 15 minutes.

Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with a little Italian seasoning.

Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and fully baked.

Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Tip

For extra cheesy rolls, add a little more grated cheese just before baking. Serve warm with pizza sauce or your favorite dip.
